Birth Control Pills Can Eliminate Periods  E-mail
Most women view their period as “a curse” that they dread having to deal with each month.

There are usually cramps, bloating and mood swings. But all that all may be coming to an end because science has made it possible for women to skip their period.  Even though it has been possible to skip a period since birth control pills were invented, most people thought it was unnatural or unsafe to miss a period.

There has been a new batch of pills specifically designed to decrease the number of periods a women has per year.  One of the new pills is called Seasonale and it has changed the minds of many women.   But there are still many unanswered questions about its safety.

It is a common misconception that the period has a clensing effect and that the shedding of the uterine lining cleans the vagina.  This is completely false, the vagina already has mechanisms to keep itself healthy and the period is not part of it.  The only reason women have periods is to have babies.

Periods do serve another valuable purpose, they let a women know whether or not she is pregnant each month.  Without this function, many women wouldn’t know if they were pregnant until the pregnancy is far along.  This is the only reason why women have periods on birth control pills.

There is now research that shows women may be having too many periods.  Studies show that women who have children later in life or who never have children are at a greater risk for ovarian cancer.  They are not sure why but believe it may be due to repeated damage caused by ovulation.   Oral contraception prevents ovulation and decreases the risk of ovarian cancer.

Scientific studies have been done and no evidence was found to suggest that any significant harm would result from skipping periods using hormonal birth control.
